Sitting around a table one night, Mark Moore, Jack (John) Burris, Wayne Burlison and myself made a decision to form the Albion Running Club so that we could keep the 23-year tradition, started by Mrs. Judy Christopher, of The Strawberry Festival 5K/8K running race, which is held annually with the Albion Strawberry Festival.
Little did we understand what we were about to "run" into. Challenges of organizing a race, launching beginner training running programs, injuries, cancer diagnosis' and the passing of dear friends. Through it all one thing remained, a desire to have a positive impact on this community.
What began in 2013 as a way to oversee the annual Strawberry Festival 5K/8K Race has now evolved into a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
We are comprised of a strong, passionate, and like-minded group of individuals committed to the betterment of not only Albion and the greater Orleans counties, but anyone we can reach through our programs, events, website and social media. I know not what the future of the Albion Running Club is, but as Abraham Lincoln once said "The best way to predict the future is to create it." Thus, we strive to create a future of opportunities for people to change their circumstances, their health and their future.
With programs like "Fit in 50" and "Run for God" or any of our race events, our promise to you, is that each step (stride, pedal, stroke or move) we take is one step closer to a healthier tomorrow.
I am excited about the future of this movement and look forward to working closely with all of the volunteers, sponsors, program participants and the community at large.
See you in the streets!
